Free YouTube Money Making Course – Lesson 5
There is a piece of misinformation that people who are new to YouTube and those who have very little knowledge about YouTube believe incorrectly. YouTube earns $1 per 1,000 views?. This is completely false information. Let us assume that this information is true. In this case, another question arises. If a 2-minute video earns $1 per 1,000 views, how much would a 1-hour video earn per 1,000 views? First, in order to be able to answer this question, it is necessary to understand YouTube’s earning logic. You can learn the earning logic by reading the lesson titled YouTube and Google AdSense earning logic, in which I explain YouTube’s earning logic. Now let us return to the main topic. On YouTube, there are four main factors that affect the earnings of a video per 1,000 views. The main factors that affect earnings are as follows.
- The type of the video
- Which region the video targets
- How many minutes the video is watched
- Whether the ads shown in the video are clicked or not
Let us examine these factors one by one and estimate how much a video earns per 1,000 views.
The type of the video
The type of the video determines which ads will appear in that video. In other words, the ads shown in car videos are not the same as the ads shown in car game videos, and they do not generate the same earnings. Let us assume that you have made a video about cars. The following ads may appear in your videos.
- Sales of automobile spare parts
- Automobile repair
- Car rental
- Listing websites that sell cars
- Car insurance ads
The probability of these and similar ads appearing is higher. However, the probability of these ads appearing in car game videos is very low. Or it is equal to zero. In car game videos, the following ads may appear.
- Ads of other car games
- Game videos in general
- Ads for the sale of game consoles and similar products
Just as these ads are different, the earnings they generate are also different. Just as the value of products or services is different in the real world, the advertising values of products or services are also different in the virtual world. Since car sales is an expensive sector, the ads of this sector are also expensive. However, since the car game sector is relatively cheap, its ads are also cheap.
Let us assume that a company that sells cars sets a value of $50 per 1,000 impressions for an ad. Another company sets $10 for a car game video. From here, it can be seen that there is a 5-fold difference in the earnings of the two ads. This is just an example. However, in real practice, it is also possible to see values lower or higher than these. Ads are put up for auction in less than one second before appearing in the video. The winning ad in the auction is shown in the video. For an ad to win the auction, either that ad must target the right audience with the right keywords, the right targeting, and have a high quality score. Or it must place the highest bid. The general summary is as follows. The type of a video determines the ads shown in that video, and the ads shown in the video determine how much that video will earn.
Which region the video targets
Apart from the type of the video, it is also very important in which region and in which country the video is watched. Ads gain value not only according to business sectors, but also according to countries. The value of ads shown in Azerbaijan is not the same as the value of ads shown in European countries, the United States, and Australia. Let us consider two different ads that sell cars. One is published in the United States, and the other is published in Azerbaijan. Ads published in the United States are more expensive than ads published in Azerbaijan. One of the main reasons for this is the strong competition in the US advertising market and the fact that giant companies publish ads in this market. Competition in countries’ advertising markets also affects YouTube earnings. That is why many YouTubers try to enter the global market and get views from all over the world. The top 10 countries where the advertising market is the most expensive are as follows.
- United States of America
- Canada
- United Kingdom
- Australia
- Germany
- France
- Italy
- Japan
- Netherlands
- New Zealand
- Norway
- Sweden
- Switzerland
How many minutes the video is watched
Let us assume that you have shared a two-minute video on YouTube. The number of ads shown in a two-minute video and a one-hour video is different. Considering that earnings on YouTube are obtained not according to the number of views, but according to ad impressions and clicks, we can see how important the number of ads shown in the video is. In videos up to 10 minutes on YouTube, 1, 2, and at most 3 ads can appear. In videos longer than 10 minutes, 7 or more ads can appear. What matters here is not the length of the video, but how many minutes of that video the viewer watches.
One of the most common mistakes made by beginners on YouTube is trying to unnecessarily make the video longer than 10 minutes. The fact that the video is longer than 10 minutes does not mean that you will earn a lot from that video. Remember that unnecessarily extending the video can make it uninteresting. An uninteresting video tires the viewer and causes them to leave the video. This reduces the average watch rate of the video. As a result, your video’s views decrease sharply. In other words, a 5-minute engaging video can bring you more earnings than a 15-minute uninteresting video.
Whether the ads shown in the video are clicked or not
In addition to ads being shown on YouTube, whether those ads are clicked or not also greatly affects earnings. Earnings are determined according to every 1,000 ad impressions and every 1 ad click. Let us assume that 1,000 ads were shown in your video. During these 1,000 ad impressions, viewers clicked on the ads 10 times. Here, earnings are calculated both according to the 1,000 ads shown and according to the 10 ads clicked. In other words, earnings are obtained from two different sources at the same time. Generally, earnings obtained according to the number of clicks are higher. In summary, in addition to the ads shown in the video, how many times those ads are clicked also affects earnings.
Attention: Clicking on the ads shown in your own videos, using encouraging methods such as “click on the ads” in your videos, or exhibiting similar behaviors is prohibited by YouTube and Google AdSense Program Policies. Such behaviors may lead to the limitation of ad impressions on your YouTube videos, the permanent disabling of the monetization feature of your YouTube channel, and the suspension of your Google AdSense account.
Now I am asking you the question at the beginning of this lesson. Write the answer as you understand it in the comments. How much does YouTube earn per 1,000 views?
