Free YouTube Monetization Course – Lesson 4

Attention: The information in this lesson mainly explains the Google AdSense earnings logic. Google AdSense is the platform where YouTube earnings are collected and all earnings are sent to bank accounts. Since the earnings logic obtained from personal websites and YouTube is the same, you can evaluate this lesson as belonging both to the YouTube Monetization lesson and to Google AdSense.

Everyone now knows that it is possible to make money from YouTube, websites, mobile games, and applications. However, very few people know how money is earned in these areas and how the revenue model is formed. Why does YouTube pay people money? How is money earned from websites? How is money earned with mobile games and applications? How is money earned from YouTube? What is the secret of this business? You will be able to find the answers to these questions in this lesson. In order to fully understand the monetization logic, it is necessary to take a step back from YouTube, websites, mobile games, and mobile applications. In other words, it is necessary to go to the place where everything starts: Google.

Google is one of the world’s leading giant technology companies. Many people think of Google only as a site where they can find what they are searching for. However, this is not the case. In addition to being a search engine, Google is also one of the leading advertising platforms in the field of digital marketing. Today, I can say that there are two main pillar platforms that keep Google standing. One is Google Ads, and the other is Google AdSense. Now you may think, what do these two platforms have to do with making money from YouTube? However, if you continue reading, you will see that the source of earnings coming from YouTube is actually these two platforms. Let’s examine both platforms.

What is Google Ads? What is it needed for?

As I mentioned just now, Google is a giant advertising platform that has proven itself in the field of digital marketing. On this platform, business owners promote the product or service they sell by running ads for their businesses, and in this way they can increase their sales. For example, let’s say you have a bicycle shop. In order to make more sales, you decide to advertise. Then you enter the Google Ads platform and publish an ad for your product there. Let’s say you allocate a budget of $100 for advertising. Google tells you that it takes this $100 from you and, in return, shows your ad to 10,000 people. Google does not guarantee which of these 10,000 people will buy a product from you. Google only commits to showing the ad. In order to make more sales, deeper work needs to be done in Google Ads, and for that, it is necessary to take a separate course. After Google takes $100 from you, it must definitely show your ad to 10,000 people. At this point, Google Ads’ job is finished and the job is transferred to the Google AdSense platform.

What is Google AdSense? What is it needed for?

After Google Ads receives the advertising order, it transfers the job to Google AdSense. Google AdSense ensures the publication of this received order. In other words, you prepare the ad on the Google Ads platform, and Google AdSense publishes this ad. Google AdSense’s job is not only to publish ads. It also prevents your ads from being clicked and viewed through fraudulent methods. In addition, it controls where these ads will appear and how much people will earn thanks to these ads. In this way, you obtain more transparent advertising statistics. So where does Google AdSense publish these ads? Google AdSense publishes these ads both on Google-owned platforms, namely:

  • In Google searches,
  • In YouTube searches,
  • In Play Market searches,
  • On the Gmail homepage,
  • On the Google News homepage,

and also on media owned by Google partners. So who are these Google partners? Everyone who collaborates with Google and earns money from Google is considered a Google partner. That is, if you have:

  • A YouTube channel,
  • A website,
  • A mobile game or a mobile application,

and Google Ads are shown on any of these, it means you are a Google partner. It is possible to earn money from the channels I listed above. However, separate rules have been determined for each one. If you have a YouTube channel, a website, a mobile game, or a mobile application, Google does not show ads there on its own. For this, you need to apply to Google. To earn money through YouTube and websites, you must apply to Google AdSense; to earn money from mobile games or mobile applications, you must apply to Google AdMob. Google AdMob is a platform connected to Google AdSense and is specially prepared for mobile applications and games. In other words, the logic is the same; only the platform used is different. Whether it is YouTube, a website, or a mobile application, the source of the money does not change. The source is always advertising.

How are YouTube earnings generated?

Just sharing videos on YouTube does not generate money. The real value is users’ attention. As people watch the video, ads are shown, and the income is formed exactly from these ads. The video is only a tool that attracts attention. Therefore, for Google, the quality of the video, its topic, and its compliance with the rules are very important. Not every channel automatically becomes an advertising partner. If there are videos that violate the rules, fake views, fake ad clicks, or repetitive content, Google does not show ads on that channel. If there are no ads, there is no income. This is exactly why YouTube Monetization Requirements exist and form the foundation of the system.

Many people measure earnings only by the number of views, but in fact, earnings depend on the value of the advertisement. Two channels with the same number of views can earn different amounts. The reason for this is the topic of the video, the country of the audience, and the budgets of advertisers. For example, business, finance, and technology topics generate higher income. In short, YouTube is not a platform that distributes money, but a system that generates traffic for advertising. Google AdSense collects this income, and you, as a content creator, become Google’s advertising partner. When you understand this logic, you see making money on YouTube not as a coincidence, but as a planned and strategic business.

In this lesson, you learned the monetization logic of YouTube, Google AdMob, and Google AdSense. If there is any point that is unclear or remains dark for you, please mention it in the comments section.
