Misconceptions Considered True About YouTube
First, let’s start with the misconceptions considered true about YouTube so that in the future you do not make wrong moves believing in these falsehoods.
YouTube videos earn money for every view.
This is false information. In one of the first lessons of our YouTube monetization course, titled “Why Does YouTube Give People Money,” I provided detailed information about the logic of YouTube monetization. However, I want to give a brief explanation again. YouTube does not pay for every video view; it pays based on the number of ads displayed and clicked in the videos. In fact, these payments are made not by YouTube but by Google AdSense.
YouTube videos count as views no matter how many times they are watched from the same device
It is not how many times you watch a YouTube video from the same device and the same IP address that matters, but the intervals at which you watch it. That is, let’s assume you watched a video you shared on YouTube 10 times in a day. The YouTube algorithm will count only one of these views as a view. The remaining views will be considered spam behavior and will not be counted in the view counter. Such actions can do more harm than good to your YouTube videos. However, if videos watched from the same IP address are viewed on different devices, they are counted as separate views.
Let’s assume 30 people are connected to a café’s Wi-Fi network. Each of these 30 people watches the same video on their own device (phone, tablet, or computer). Here, one Wi-Fi network appears as one IP address. However, 30 different devices are seen as 30 different people. Therefore, each viewer’s watch is reflected in the counters. The YouTube algorithm prevents artificial views in this way and makes the YouTube platform more user-friendly.
If I open a YouTube channel registered in America, I will earn more.
This is completely false information. Let’s assume you live in Azerbaijan. However, you register your channel with an American phone number, as if you were in America. Later, when you upload your videos from an Azerbaijani IP address, the YouTube algorithm will be able to determine which country you are in based on your IP address. Such actions can sink your YouTube channel instead of helping it grow.
Moreover, it does not matter in which country you open a channel to be watched globally or to earn more. To be watched globally, it is important that your YouTube videos are understandable in all languages. If you make a video in Azerbaijani, YouTube will not recommend it to Chinese viewers. Because the spoken language of the video is also unfamiliar for the country. Ask yourself this question and write your answer in the comments: “If I make a video in Azerbaijani, why would a Chinese person watch my video?”
You Get a Cash Reward When Receiving YouTube Plaques
YouTube plaques are incentive gifts for channel owners. Channel owners are given a goal through the plaques, and rewards are given to channel owners who reach this goal. No cash reward is given to channel owners along with the plaques received. This information is false. If you’d like to learn more about YouTube awards, you can read the official article published by Google titled “YouTube Creator Awards“.
Earning Money from YouTube Is Very Easy
Earning money from YouTube is not as easy as you think. For this, you need to work diligently and make improvements in your videos day by day. Do not start working just by believing in the videos you see on social networks. On social networks, YouTube is presented as if sharing a single video will make you a millionaire. In some videos, different YouTube channels are analyzed. Videos that say “this channel gets this many views and earns this much per month” analyze those channels using Socialblade. The Socialblade algorithm works separately from the YouTube algorithm. Socialblade only provides approximate analyses about channels. The information there is not accurate and does not reflect any truth.
It Does Not Matter If the Video Is High-Quality or Low-Quality, As Long As There Is a Video
The quality of YouTube videos is measured and evaluated by the algorithm. If a video’s sound and image are high quality, the algorithm promotes the video and ensures it gets more views. However, for a video to reach millions of views, not only the sound and image but also the video’s topic must be high quality. If you want to become a YouTuber and do not have the equipment to shoot high-quality videos, having a quality topic is enough for an initial step. If we look at the first videos shared by today’s famous YouTubers, we will see that they also shot very low-quality videos when they first started. However, over time, they improved both their topics and video quality. Therefore, having high-quality videos is a great advantage, but it is not a barrier.
Truth Considered False About YouTube
Shorts Videos Can Affect Long Videos
There are differences between the viewers of standard videos and the viewers of Shorts videos on YouTube. Some viewers prefer to watch only short videos and are not interested in long videos. When you share both Shorts and standard videos on the same channel, your channel’s subscriber count can increase thanks to Shorts. However, most of these subscribers are only fans of short videos and do not watch your long videos. As a result, even if the algorithm shows your long videos, viewers will not be interested, will not click, and your video’s impression and click metrics will decrease. Over time, this causes the algorithm to show your videos to fewer people. For this reason, it is useful to choose one of two strategies when sharing your videos:
- Share only Shorts or only standard videos.
- Create Shorts videos that are compatible with standard videos.
For example:
Let’s assume you manage a cooking channel and share a long video titled “How to Make Pizza at Home.” You can also create a Shorts video on the same topic. However, instead of showing the entire pizza-making process in this Shorts video, you can only show the final result and say:
I made this pizza at home. If you want to learn the preparation process, you can go to my channel and watch the video ‘How to Make Pizza at Home.
In this way, you can direct Shorts viewers to your long videos, increasing both your video views and your channel’s overall performance. In this lesson, we clearly explained the most common false information and the misconceptions considered true about YouTube. Now you know that not every view earns money, Shorts videos can affect your long videos, plaques do not provide cash rewards, and the country where the channel is opened does not affect earnings.
Remember: being informed, taking the right steps, and continuous improvement are the most important keys to success on YouTube. Now the next step is in your hands – apply what you have learned and grow your channel!
